It’s no secret that Exped is one of our go-to brands when we’re looking for our next favorite pack. The Exped Typhoon 25L is no exception to the quality and thought we’ve come to expect from them. It’s a simple yet versatile pack designed for rainy day hikes, bike commutes, or water-based adventures. Here’s an in-depth look at its features and performance:
Design and Build
- Roll Top Closure: The simple roll top design ensures secure closure against the elements, keeping your gear dry and allowing you to adjust based on contents. One observation is that we find that the lip of the roll top could benefit from being a bit thicker or stiffer to provide a cleaner closure, but it still does the job well.
- Internal Features: Inside, the Typhoon is minimalistic with just a small zippered admin pocket featuring a key tether. This simplicity makes it easy to pack and unpack essential items on the go without unnecessary clutter.
- External Features: Daisy chains and “ice axe” loops are available for external gear attachment, enhancing the pack’s versatility. There are also two stretch mesh pockets on the sides for water bottles. These pockets can accommodate larger bottles like a 26oz Yeti Rambler, provided the bag isn’t overpacked.
- Reinforced Bike Light Loop: For cyclists, the pack includes a reinforced bike light loop, adding an extra layer of safety for night rides.

- Mesh Back Panel: The back panel features cushioned mesh for comfort and breathability. Since the back of the pack lacks a rigid structure, it’s easy to roll up and stow in a suitcase when traveling.
