EDC Knife – Benchmade 940 & 940-1

The Benchmade 940 is one of my favorite knives from this brand. With a LifeSharp warranty, this knife not only promises quality but also offers the convenience of free repairs and servicing for its lifetime. Designed by the Warren Osborne, the 940 has solidified its place as an EDC favorite for many years. Osborne, who has lent his creative genius to other Benchmade designs like the 810 Contego, shares a distinctive design language that resonates with knife enthusiasts.

Originally released some years ago, the 940 is perfectly sized to effortlessly handle a variety of daily tasks, while remaining discreet in your pocket. The release of a smaller version, the 940-1, addresses the need for a lighter option that, in my opinion, seamlessly complements dress clothes. This smaller iteration was a game-changer for me, avoiding the weighty feel in dress pant or suit jacket pockets.

What sets Benchmade apart is their commitment to evolving their designs. As of this year, the 940 is now available for customization through the Benchmade website. You can now personalize your knife with different blade steels, handles, hardware, and pocket clips. You can now even have a deep pocket carry clip—a significant upgrade for those who found the original clip placement a tad too high. The 940 starts at $240 and goes up from there depending on the model you choose or the customization you pick. I have also come to appreciate the accessibility to aftermarket options to further tailor the knife to suit individual EDC preferences.

The Benchmade 940, with its continuous improvements, remains one of my favorite EDC knives. The combination of Osborne’s design finesse, Benchmade’s commitment to quality and customization, and the addition of the 940-1 for more formal occasions makes it a highly recommended choice for anyone in search of a reliable and personalized EDC knife.
