A Favorite Small Pack – Triple Aught Design Fast Pack Scout

The Scout, Special Edition VX42 is a small fifteen liter backpack by Triple Aught Design with two main Compartments. It is made from 1000D Cordura, and currently available in Black, Coyote Brown, Foliage Green, Multicam, and Multicam Black (only available in 500D). Triple Aught Design periodically will run special edition versions of their packs in different colors and fabrics. I would recommend this pack if you are looking for a small, well made EDC backpack and are willing to spend some money. I really like that this pack is compact and has the ability to utilize multiple different pouches for modular packing, especially those from Triple Aught Design.

Unlike the Lightspeed, this pack does not come with a transport tail, it has to be ordered separately if you are looking for this additional capability. If you don’t want to spend the extra cash for a transport tail, the Scout does come with two compression straps (which are removable if you choose to run the pack plain). I found that one downside is that even though Triple Aught Design has ways to keep excess straps organized, it still feel a little messy and bulky at times.

While the VX42 was a limited edition run at my time of purchase, linked here is the regular Scout pack: https://tripleaughtdesign.com/shop/fast-pack-scout/
