The MetMo Pocket Driver is an awesome tool designed to bridge the gap between hex keys & allen wrenches, T-drivers and micro drivers, and screwdrivers. I backed this product on Kickstarter in June 2023 and received the black aluminum model with a stainless steel head. This tool is a modern take on an old design originally invented in 1871, now enhanced with modern machining techniques. Here’s why the MetMo Pocket Driver has quickly become one of my go-to tools.

Design and Build Quality
The tool boasts a sleek and robust construction. Its compact size, measuring 4”x 1.06” x 0.68” and weighing just 3.8 oz (for the aluminum version), makes it incredibly portable. Despite its small size, the driver is made from high-grade materials, with a black body made of aerospace grade aluminum and a stainless steel head that ensure durability and a substantial feel in hand.

Versatility and Functionality
One of the standout features of the MetMo Pocket Driver is its ability to hold two bits in the handle, ensuring you are always prepared for any task. The ratcheting mechanism is smooth and satisfying, providing a pleasant tactile experience. This mechanism can be adjusted to be stiffer if desired, catering to personal preferences. The driver is also very fidget-friendly, thanks to the satisfying ratcheting action. Most importantly, this tool achieves an impressive level of torque, reaching 150 in-lb.

Usability and Ergonomics
One downside I have observed is that the directional setting trigger, while functional, feels a bit delicate. This is likely due to the light spring used in its construction. When using the driver, it’s possible to accidentally hit the trigger with your thumb, causing it to lock or switch directions unexpectedly. However, this can be avoided by holding the driver just by the handle rather than the body, preventing any unintended contact with the trigger.

Pricing
The Pocket Driver comes in three metal options, ranging from lightest to heaviest, cheapest to most expensive: aerospace grade black aluminum ($130.47, 3.8 oz), black steel ($173.96, 5.2 oz), and stainless steel ($217.45, 8.1 oz). I have found that the aluminum option has suited just fine and I am happy to have ended up with the lightweight option at a lower price point.
Conclusion
The MetMo Pocket Driver is a remarkable tool that combines precision engineering with a sleek, portable design. Its modern take on a classic, coupled with the high-quality materials and craftsmanship, make it a valuable addition to any toolkit. Despite the minor issue with the directional trigger, the driver’s overall performance and functionality are impressive. Whether you’re using it for everyday tasks or intricate projects, the MetMo Pocket Driver is a reliable and satisfying tool to have on hand.
